A few weeks ago, I flew to my hometown of Vancouver, BC and worked with the crew to create brand new (and free!) Instagram training for you. Here's a timeline of the growth of my Instagram account to give a snapshot of how and when I built up to 5,000 Instagram followers. To increase your followers base you need first to attract them to your account (more on that later). It's the most natural way to draw attention to your own Instagram account while getting your foot in the door in the community, and getting inspiration from others' content.

If you can create an engaging, effective Instagram account with a decent amount of followers, you'll be able to reach your target audience really consistently. If you truly want to get more Instagram followers, you have to provide something of value. Instagram really does give immense potential for businesses to be discovered by their target audience, if and when used correctly. To keep engagement high, follow people in your space, comment on their posts, and like their pictures.

A contest is one proven method for gaining Instagram followers in a short time. Look for patterns in the posts that were the most engaging and try to replicate that in your future content. Opening up a conversation with your followers can help you get to know them better (and to help them know YOU better) so you can always create content they will love.

That said, there are plenty of easy ways to gain more Instagram followers. You'd study these people and see what they usually post regarding content, photos, videos and blogs on their social media channels. NEW - Instagram automatic posting is now available for Instagram Business profiles.

For example, if you're posting a photo about a tea shop in San Diego that's frequented by millennials, you can boost your post to people who are interested in tea, live in San Diego, and are females between the age of 20-35. Mentions: Once you've generated some content, tag relevant Instagrammers in your posts to tap into their followers.
